More Toni Samek

Adding to the Toni Samek theme that we have going here at “We Read Banned Books”…

Dr. Samek has an article in the current issue of Academic Matters: the Journal of Higher Education titled “Librarians and ‘information justice’ “. It’s interesting to read about academic freedom as it applies to librarians in universities. Dr. Samek makes the case that, although librarian work directly supports intellectual freedom in universities, librarians themselves are often not afforded academic freedom protection in their contract language…. and that this is something that faculty should be concerned about.

Academic Matters is a publication of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations and seems to be distributed to members of OCUFA and CAUT (Canadian Association of University Teachers): it pleases me to think that print copies of this are turning up in faculty mailboxes across the country.
